ANKIT PATEL
Born 1957, Ankit Patel studied sculpture in his home state at MS University in Baroda.
Ankit Patel incessantly works on his sculptural forms primarily figurative and in bronze, endowing them with a breathe of fresh life. The inspiration comes from his rustic roots, folk and farm traditions. Movement is the force and the thrust behind much of his mobile and kinetic creations that he diligently sculpts working relentlessly from his studio. Ankit has worked in wood, bronze and stone to create art that senses moods and movements as if enacting primeval vibrations and imagination. His figuration cast in metal is spontaneous and playful in light movements. His choice of material and size of work ranging from small to life size depends on his form and the idea behind the visual imagery. Free of any trappings and emerging out of his years of experimentation and innovation, his stick-like figures are known for their charm and personality.
Honored as a pioneer of Kinetic Art in India, Ankit Patel currently teaches at the College of Art in Jaipur. He has several outdoor projects in his repertoire including a series of bronzes for a park in the pink city of Jaipur apart from participation in many group exhibitions in India and abroad. Recipient of prestigious awards and acclaims for his works, which includes the National Lalit Kala Academy Award in 89, 91and 95, Patel has also designed trophies for events - the Wills cup Man of the Match trophy, the Miss Personality trophy for the Miss World contest held in India. Ankit lives and works in Jaipur.
